This year I have face to face lessons with a 10 year old girl. I don’t believe I have ever had a student that is so eager to do speaking activities ! She enjoys them immensely! The grammar book we are using has many speaking exercises to practice specific grammatical structures one at a time. We sometimes pretend we are on tv interviewing each other about various things eg daily habits etc, future plans etc.. Great for accuracy and fluency practice. With some imagination and humor added we have a fun time. I’m quite lucky to have such a student!

    Sounds ideal! She must be quite a good level to be able to do those kinds of activities. Enjoy it and I hope she continues to enjoy learning languages thanks to your positive and fun activities!

    Thank for your comment, Hannah. My student has only been doing English lessons for about three years but I can't take the credit for that! She's not shy at all and I think that really helps too. She obviously likes the language and uses it a lot during the lesson and even when we play games. She really is an ideal language learner!

Konnichiwa, everyone! My name is Anne, and I'm waving to you from rural Japan, where I have lived for alllllllmost one year teaching very young learners (ages 2 and up). I have been teaching since 2002, mainly in South Korea and recently in Japan. I am here because I want to teach better, get new ideas and learn new ways to use old ones, and help my littles be more comfortable with their English-speaking selves. Hi Everyone. I've been incredibly busy this week, so this is the first chance I've had to read everyone's comments and add my own reflections. I enjoyed last week's session and I'm looking forward to the next one! Last weekend (on Saturday) I went to a conference in Taipei. Stephen Krashen was speaking, and he highlighted a lot of rules and guidelines that are commonly used by language teachers but which, in his view, need to be reconsidered. They are: 1.
