HINTS for our Google Community,

Hello everyone,

This looks to be a super active group this month. Here are a few hints to help you get the most out of this forum:

1. We will have a place to post your thoughts and homework after each session. It will be called Week 1 Discussion, Week 2 Discussion, etc.

2. We will also have a separate space called Tips to Share, where Penny would like you to add teaching or activity ideas that you recommend or that are variations of tips Penny shares in the live sessions.

3. Make sure you click the circle (+1) after you read a POST or a REPLY so you don't have to read the same messages over and over again.

4. You can edit a post by clicking on the dots in the top right corner and you will see EDIT THIS POST.

5. You can also make sure someone sees your reply by adding their name like this: Steven Herder

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    Hi Steven, I tried to join through Adobe app but login was unsuccessful. Is this because it is not open yet or because I am using my ipad? I couldn't find James ( tech issues) -is there a "search for participants" icon? (was scrolling through comments)

    Hi Claudie G - We usually open 30 minutes before the session, but tonight we have a bunch of new faces so I'm going to open now. Please try entering again.

    Steven Herder I can't log in. I have the app on my ipad. It opened to the group site but when I tried to log in it failed. Do I use my iTTDi password? Can I reset that? How? Tgsnks

    James Taylor She emailed me, and I'm stumped. She's on the app, and gets "invalid user name" entering as guest. I've asked her to restart the phone, and sent screen shots (since member is clicked by default). If that doesn't work, I'll send her back here and maybe you can help :)

For error correction I tend to use the most frequent type of correction, recast. I believe I use it because it's quick and doesn't harm fluency and communication entirely. But like Penny Ur mentioned, this type of correction all the time may be ineffective and may I add fall on deaf ears most of the times. Research shows that the best correction methods are elicitation, metalinguistic feedback and explicit correction so I feel I need to use more of these methods when correcting my students. Also, sometimes I let errors go by uncorrected mostly because I consider them minor or unimportant errors but there are times when students notice them and correct them. Perhaps it's best the teacher corrects all errors and not the students because it could come across as if the teacher wasn't listening or doesn't care and because learners would rather be corrected by the their teacher than their peers as research shows.
