I've changed the order and content of the second two sessions of this course, in response to your postings.
Next week we'll be looking at error correction and use of L1 in English teaching. In the last session, some selected issues in reading and writing.

I am particularly interested in using L1, especially when it is L3 for the teacher. My L1 is Hungarian, my L2 is English, my L3 is Spanish. I teach monolingual (Spanish L1) students (in Ecuador) and I resort to Spanish often enough. I encourage them to teach me: I give them a sample sentence in Spanish to translate into English and they correct me before we create the English version. Am I the only one in this kind of a setup?
ReplyDeletethank you Penny Ur I'm very excited to attend the next session because this issue is like a nightmare for me. How should I deal with error correction? I tend to correct their speaking errors every time they do it It seem that they get uncomfortable and the session becomes boring. So I tried to choose specific speaking errors to correct, however, I feel guilty and I start thinking that I'm not doing a good job. Please help me!
