Hi everyone
Hi everyone,
My name's Francesca and I teach in Madrid in Spain. I've been teaching for 17 years, 9 in Spain, 7 back in my native Scotland and 1 year in Italy.
At the moment, I'm teaching mainly Business English classes with groups and one-to one students and I'm also building up my teacher training business. In the summer, I return to Glasgow and teach EAP at Glasgow University.
I'm really looking forward to the course as I remember when I first started teaching, Penny Ur was one of my favourite authors. I used to go to my local bookshop and have a look at "Grammar Practice Activities", adding some ideas to my notebook until I got enough money to buy the book for myself! It really helped me survive those first few years of teaching. Thank you for that Penny!
I hope to refresh my knowledge of some techniques that I have forgotten over the years and look forward to sharing and discussing new ideas with the learning community. I'd also be interested in any new ways to make one-to-one learning truly effective. I'm also excited about taking part in an online course as I don't have much experience of that and I think it's truly the way forward for our students and ourselves as teachers.
As for me, I'm Scottish, crazy about cinema and dogs (although films about dogs normally make me cry) and I love my life here in Madrid.
That's all for now!

ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! That's a great story about starting out as a teacher!
ReplyDeleteWelcome and look forward to hearing more from you. I am just curious if you are Scottish will we see your accent in your typing. Just kidding, but looking forward to hearing more as Scottish in Spain sounds like you have some great stories I could steal to use with my students.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you. I am looking forward to you sharing your experience teaching Business English in Spain
ReplyDeleteI wonder if we did a survey how many people would still have their Penny Ur books from those "newbie" days? I do!! (Along with the red, black and blue Azars!!!) Glad you're here...Madrid sounds wonderful.
